How to Start Making a Room Spray Without Chemicals?
Our living rooms can look clean and tidy and still feel a bit flat.
Using a room spray is often the quick fix, especially on cushions, sofa and even curtains especially when we have guests coming over .
That said, have you ever looked at the back of the bottle and checked what you are spraying into the air?
It may smell lovely but the ingredient list often reads like another language to me,
Most shop-bought sprays use a mix of synthetic fragrances, preservatives, and stabilisers. What I wanted was something simpler, more familiar and easier to fell good about using at home.
That’s what made me try mixing my own. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a natural spray that feels personal , you know what’s inside and it only takes five minutes.
DIY Room Spray Recipe
Choose your oils:
First pick two oils that contrast nicely: one fresh and one grounding.
Here are a few of my favourites:
Mix one fresh ( left side) and one grounding ( right side) and see what feels like home.
You’ll need:
This makes about 120ml-130ml Room spray blend
A 150 ml spray bottle
~120 ml distilled or filtered water
1 teaspoon of clear alcohol
2 Essential oils that contrasts nicely (medium strength 3% of the volume so about 70 drops)
In this demo, I’m using a medium blend of 70 drops with grapefruit and sandalwood: that’s 35 drops (about ½ teaspoon) of grapefruit + 35 drops (about ½ teaspoon) of sandalwood.
Choose whichever pairing you like best (see the combos above), and just split the total drops between the two.
What I do:
Pour 120 ml water into the spray bottle.
Add your essential oils
Add 1 teaspoon of alcohol.
Pop the lid on and give it a good shake before each use.
How I use it
I use it in the lounge area, over sofa’s cushions, blanket and curtains.
Because scent lives where comfort does.
