How to create a Soho House–inspired atmosphere in your home

The spirit of the House

Soho House isn’t a place you go to be impressed; it’s a place you go to belong.

While it is a global private members’ club, it is more specifically a feeling, the shift from a grand, polished lobby to a room that feels lived-in, creative, and slightly undone.

The style is a 'warm after-hours' energy that stays consistent no matter which city you are in.

It’s built on worn leather, dark wood, and pools of low light; a retro-meets-modern aesthetic that feels private rather than performative.

Noticing the shift

Creating this atmosphere isn't really about decorating; it’s about noticing the moment a space shifts from functional to lived-in.

It’s that feeling of a room being warm, comfortable, and slightly undone and letting scent support that shift.

I look for these moments specifically ;

When a cabinet is opened only for friends

When you are sunk into a chair after 9pm

When a drink is left on the coffee table because the conversation was too good to leave

When the glow of a lamp stays on as the daylight fades

These aren’t staged moments; they are the quietly luxe reality of a house that is actually loved.

A home fragrance doesn’t create the experience, it deepens it

The scent profile

A Soho House–style scent doesn’t smell like a cold five-star hotel.

It feels warm but restrained, intimate, and slightly smoky like a room where conversations linger.

Below is how I would translate the atmosphere of a Soho House into a scent.

A soft floral lift (neroli, rose in the background)

Woods and resins (like cedarwood and amber)

A hint of spice (cardamom, clove, amber notes)

DIY Blend for Diffuser: Soho House inspired

What You’ll Need

This makes about 20 ml of diffuser blend.

  • An ultrasonic diffuser with a refill bottle

  • 20 ml essential oils (about 4 tsp total):

    • Cedarwood: 60 drops (2 tsp)

    • Neroli or Orange Blossom : 40 drops ( 1 tsp and a little more (1+1/3 tsp)

    • Frankincense : 20 drops (2/3 tsp)

Optional: if you want a touch more warmth, reduce the frankincense slightly and add few drops of cardamon.

  • A small funnel or bottle pourer

How I Make It

  1. Measure and combine the oils

  2. Gently swirl them together in a small bowl or glass bottle. 9 I use a small glass dressing bottle with a sprout)

  3. Pour the blend into your diffuser refill bottle

How I use it

I use this blend in spaces where I want the house to feel welcoming rather than “scented “ in the hallway or the lounge.

A final word

A Soho House-inspired home isn’t about copying a place.

It’s about creating a mood that feels private, creative, and quietly luxe,
